Kids Cookery Classes

A range of pirate games, music and dancing, cookery workshops, kitchen science, crafts and the infamous Vegfest Smoothie Bike all designed to sew the seeds in children’s brains about the importance of eating at least 5 portions of vegetables per day using all the colours of the rainbow every day.

Legendary kid’s entertainer/vegducater, Captain James Tea Cook, Pirate of the Carob Bean, will be hosting the kid’s area vegan cookery classes and kitchen science on both Saturday and Sunday.

 

 

Captain James Tea Cook, Ship’s Cook & Pirate of the Carob Bean says:

"Me main aim be getting yer kiddywinks to be eating more vegetables, at least 5 portions of veg a day choosing one from each colour of the rainbow. We also learn about the importance of water and Oxygen, vitamins and minerals. So as well as the VegfestUK smoothie bike we be having cookery workshops where we makes Rainbow sushi, pancakes, fruit kebabs, mini pizzas and omega 3 cannon balls and the kitchen science where we finds electricity in bananas, we also has a few Pirate Fairground games."

Joining Captain James Tea Cook and the Pirates of The Carob Bean is the most fun-est way to learn about vegetamabubble glue and other important vegdumacational medical necessities that keep our bodies working the way human beans’ bodies were meant to. Hands on cooking workshops, kitchen science, dancing, singing, crafts and general larking about. Very noisy and at times messy. Although we do try hard to accommodate those with ASD and sensory issues it can get loud. As we are dealing with food please ensure children arrive with hands washed, hair up (if appropriate) and no bogies. Young children will need to be supervised please. Not recommended for young children if they have a fear of big fluffy parrots especially ones called ‘Pirate Potty’ who does uncanny seagull impersonations. The Parrot likes kids, but he’s never eaten a whole one.

11.00 - 11.30 - Pirates of The Carob Bean Treasure Hunt

Grab a programme at the @VegfestUK entrance and turn the map into a treasure map. Mark it with X's or secret code where to find your favourite Dairy Free Cheese / ice cream / vegan sausage or meat alternative and where to find your favourite vegan chocolate or any other treasure that may take your fancy. Work out how many hops, skips and jumps or paces between each stop. Best Maps get a free ride on Captain James Tea Cook’s smoothie bike.

 

11.30 - 12.00 - The VegfestUK Smoothie Bike Cranks up and meet the Pirate Q&A

Cycle yourself a fresh fruit and Koko Dairy Free Coconut milk smoothie on the VegfestUK Blender bike. Min donation £1 (all day) Meanwhile take a selfie with the Pirate, ask questions about being a pirate, swap pirate jokes. 

 

12.00 - 12.30 – Live Cookery Workshop - 5 a Day Rainbow Sushi (all ages)

Please arrive with freshly washed hands. We make sushi with a rainbow of vegetables

What we learn: The importance of 5 a day, a rainbow every day, wholefood not half food

1.00 - 1.30 – Live Pancake Tossing Competition (all ages) with Capt JTC

Please arrive with freshly washed hands. How to make but mainly how to toss an egg-free dairy free vegan Pancake and then eat it

What we learn: whole foods not half foods, 5 a day, eat a rainbow, Fats for your brain

1.30 – 2.00 - Magician (Check posters for times)

Crafts – Rainbow Handprints, make a plate poster to inspire others to eat more veg

Recycling – Collect 20 cans, flatten them get a token for a free ride on smoothiebike

2.00 – 2.30 – Live:  Mr Potato Pet Head Teenage Lobotomy with Capt JTC

We slice off the head and remove the starchy brains of a potato, refill with omega 3 seeds to make a Potato Pet. Then (at home) watch the head of hair grow until your Tatty Friend needs a haircut and helps boosts your brain too by adding his ‘hair’ to a sandwich.

What we learn: Fats for your brain, water and hydration, how things grow, motor neurone skills, knife etiquette

2.30 - 3.00 – Live Cookery Workshop Pieces of 8 a day - Rainbow fruit and veg kebabs with chocolate or cheese sauce with Capt JTC and his potty parrot

Please arrive with freshly washed hands.  We choose a rainbow of fruit or veg to make a healthy Shish Kebab Then drizzle with sauce

What we learn: 5 a day, rainbow every day, knife skills

3.00 - 3.30 - Science workshop – with Capt. James Tea Cook Pirate of the Carob Bean

·         Battery Farmed Electric Bananas

·         make your own Lemonade with less sugar

·         How green is your spit?

What we learn: Minerals are needed for vital functions in your body, sugary drinks are not useful

 

3.30 - 4.00 – Live Cookery Workshop  - Dragon’s Breath Mini Pizzas With Capt JTC

Please arrive with freshly washed hands and hair tied up if needed. We use Dragons breath to cook our own 5 a day mini pizzas.

What we learn: 5 a day, rainbow every day,

 

4.00 – 4.30 – Live Cookery Workshop Whole Food Chocolate Carrot Cake Pirate High Protein Cannon Ball snacks with Capt JTC POTCB

Please arrive with freshly washed hands. A bit messy so be prepared to return to the toilets for a longer visit afterwards. We make chocolate and oat cannonballs. Perfect protein snacks

What we learn: Fats for your brain not fats for your bottom, 5 a day, wholefoods not half foods, emulsification, lunch box ideas.

4.30 - Last chance of the day to cycle yourself a fresh fruity smoothie
