Jack Cookson

Appearing Saturday 5pm on the Buskers Stage

Jack Cookson is a multi-instrumentalist and an exciting, young and talented singer-songwriter. His finger style guitar playing is top class, and he combines this with skillful harmonica and great vocals. In 2015 he released his self-produced and predominantly self-performed album entitled "Revolt & Resolve", while performing over 100 gigs all round the Midlands and south west UK, both headline and support. He has shared the stage with the likes of Franz Nicolay (Against Me!/The Hold Steady), Cory Branan and Austin Lucas.

Jack combines elements of several genres - blues, folk and punk, paired with articulate lyrics of his roots, his life and of love. Other past releases include his debut EP "Five Times" (2012), a split EP with Welsh singer-songwriter Ieuan Williams (2014), and a live EP recorded at Helios Studios, Bristol (2015).

As well as performing in his own right, Jack has played in various other bands and is currently involved in recording at Monnow Valley Studios in Wales. He is playing lead and bass guitar on Hattie Briggs' new album Young Runaway, as well as double bass, and will be appearing as part of her 6 piece band on her Young Runaway showcase tour.

2016 should see him continue to raise his musical profile and the year started very well in January when he was announced as one of the final four nominees for the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award. The BBC Radio 2 Folk award winners will be revealed at the Royal Albert Hall in April.

Jack also offers service as a session musician for recordings and live events, with harmonica, acoustic/electric guitar and double/electric bass in his arsenal. Most genres covered, minus death metal. Aswell as Hattie Briggs, he has worked with the likes of Natalie Holmes, Ieuan Williams, Cécile, Calvin Thomas and Harry & The Gondolas, both live and in the studio.
