12:00 - Andrea Speranza (The Vegan Society) - Spreading the word about veganism - Simple tools to start or support a campaign
We enjoy our lifestyle: it is cruelty free, keeps us healthy and is aligned with our principles. So what can we do from wherever we are to ensure that we spread the word about veganism in order for it to become an even more common way of living? Come along to our workshop and learn some tools to run or support successful pro-vegan campaigns.
12:30 - Lisa Tenzin-Dolma (Protect a Pup) - Dogs in Crisis: neutering to save lives, and questions and answers about dog behaviour
Last year almost 8,000 stray and abandoned dogs were put to sleep in council pounds. This heartbreaking situation could be massively reduced through responsible neutering and spaying. Lisa will explain the pros and cons of neutering, and answer questions about how you can resolve your dog’s behaviour issues using ‘positive’ methods.
2:00 - Ruth Hawe - Creative Writing as Effective Activism
It has always been the power of fiction to get under the normal radar which blocks people's reception of evolutionary transformational information. Think about the amazing films which have altered your own perception and you'll begin to realise this, because of course film and drama start with thoughts written on paper.
2:30 - Juliet Gellatley - Be a school speaker!
Played with the idea of speaking in schools but not sure what it involves? Or how much time it takes? Come along to this Workshop by Juliet, who has given hundreds of secondary school talks and see if you’d like to influence the next generation to be kind to animals and our planet. Help demystify veganism and make it easy for kids to change. School speaking is incredibly positive and fun. Find out if it’s for you.
Come and meet the Veganuary team and listen to them reveal their top tips for engaging non-vegans online. Find out who to target, how to get people to listen, and why promoting vegan pledges is one of best ways to help reduce animal suffering.
12:00 - Dean Bracher - Educating Veganism
We ourselves are vegan and understand the ethics and practical aspects of it. But our children and younger generations need that education and we can learn how to share it with them. This talk will prepare you with confidence that you can be that educator of vegnaism, you have the power to inspire and change the world through education. I'll share my experience of giving 100's of school talks and cooking demonstrations on veganism and together we'll share it with a wider audience!
Eager to educate and help sow the seed of veganism, Dean and Alex have both been volunteers for The Vegan Society for many years. Alex now runs the volunteering programme at the Society and hopes to get many more people involved in promoting veganism and the important work of The Vegan Society across the country. Come along to chat with them and learn about how you can get involved - from more active roles to roles you can carry out from your couch - all to help create awareness about the issues we are all passionate about.
1:00 - Jane Easton (Viva!) - Why we need more vegan cookery demonstrations
Would you like to encourage others to try vegan food?
Can you cook a little? If so, what is your favourite dish?
Does your local group or event need more people to offer a cookery demo?
Are you nervous of cooking or speaking in public?
Would you like to encourage non-vegans or new vegans?
Jane Easton, Viva!’s Food & Cookery Coordinator, will chat about why cookery demonstrations are so important, offer a few hints about giving a simple cookery demo for your local group or event and answer questions.
1:30 - Lizzi Shaw (Dorset Vegan) - Vegan outreach – using your unique talents to promote the vegan lifestyle
Lizzi will talk about the ways in which you can use your personal strengths and unique talents to promote veganism both online and offline. She’ll touch on how you can use social media to spread the message, tips and tricks of organising events and marketing your message.
