New to Vegfest this year - The Pearls of Samarkand
Samarkand has a history stretching back over 3,000 years, making it one of the oldest cities in the world. Based in modern day Uzbekistan, it was an important junction for caravan traders on the ancient silk road between Europe and the East. This fascinating city was and remains one the most important commercial centres in the Orient, a meeting place and crossroads of cultures and diverse products from all corners of the civilised world. So it is fitting that Marap have chosen the name Samarkand as well as its location to bring together a range of the best and most exquisite dried fruit and nuts and named them The Pearls of Samarkand. The Pearls of Samarkand provide an exquisite range of natural dried fruit and nut snacks and ingredients – all organic, vegetarian and vegan. Many of the products are wild harvested and the range brings some unique tastes to the UK. The Pearls of Samarkand range includes such rarities as black and white mulberries, purple- heart pomegranates, barberries, seabuckthorn, apricot kernels and goji berries. After harvesting the products are brought to state-of-the-art drying stations near Samarkand, where Marap have created a Fair Trade joint venture with local businesses. Products are shipped to Vienna for laser sorting and packing into convenient re-sealable doy packs.
